The exclusion filters in the report builder allow you to tune your Twitter audience queries to exclude handles, bio keywords, or locations.
What you can use the exclusion filter for:
- to identify the nature of your fans who don’t also follow your competitors (or vice versa)
- to evaluate the followers of shows or movies who are indifferent to the stars (or vice versa)
- to opt to study global audiences except for certain locations
- to remove self-identification keywords to filter audience profiles
How to apply exclusion filter:
For this example, I want to look at everyone who follows the Nike handle who doesn't also follow Nike's competitor Adidas.
- Add in any handles, bio keywords, or locations that you would LIKE to be included in your report (at least one inclusion filter must be applied before a user is able to apply an exclusion).
So, I would add in the handle @Nike.
- Then check off the box "Exclude people who match this filter" and add in any handles, bio keywords, or locations that you would like NOT to be included in your report.
So, here I would add in the handle @Adidas.
If you applied the exclusion filter correctly, then your Audience summary should look like this:
Note:
- at least one inclusion filter must be applied before a user is able to apply an exclusion.
- exclusion filters are only available on Twitter Network Graph reports
- similar to intersection audiences (i.e. AND operator), we are unable to provide an upfront estimate on the overlap for NOT operator
- when multiple filters are excluded, users who match any or all of the filters will be removed from the audience
- monitoring is NOT possible on exclusion reports at this time
