1.7.3 Beginner Tutorial - How to Create a Report and View its Status

This article will walk you through how to create a report, check its status, and open the report when it’s ready to be viewed. For an in-depth look at each report type, see Report Creation.

1. Start by selecting the “New Report” option from the Main Menu.

2. The first step to building your report is selecting the network. When you click on a network, Affinio displays the approximate turnaround time. When you’re ready, hit continue.

3. Next, you will choose from a list of applicable report types based on the network you’ve selected. Click on a report type to read its description, including the criteria for your query. The screenshot below displays the description of a Network Graph report. Tweet Content reports allow you to find and analyze people based on what hashtags, mentions, keywords, or phrases they’ve used. Upload .csv reports allow you to analyze custom audience lists (in .csv format) from your CRM, survey responses, website visitors, etc.

And URL Share reports allow you to analyze people based on URL(s) they’ve shared. Once you’ve selected your report type, hit continue.

4. This step will vary based on the report type and network you’ve selected. Here, we are going to build a Twitter Network Graph report. You can base your query on some combination of who people follow, where they live, or how they self-describe in their bio; note only one of these characteristics is mandatory for your query. For this example, I chose to run a report on @justinbieber’s followers. After seeing that the Biebs has over 104 million followers, I decided to add “Canada” as a location filter. Hit continue when you’re happy with your query.

5. This next step includes optional features such as Number of Clusters, Tracked Terms, as well as Interests’ Follower Range. For this example, I chose to decrease the number of clusters from 20 to 15. This number indicates how many segments your audience will be divided into based on their interests and affinities. Reports with more clusters typically provide greater insight into niche communities. The number of clusters also determines how many segments you will have available for navigation on the left-hand side of your report. Again, hit continue when you’re ready to proceed.

6. Adding Benchmarks is also optional. Owned and Competitive Targets allow you to measure specific accounts for Relevance and Affinity, Affinio's interest metrics.

7. The final step is to name your report and launch it. We also advise that before launching the report, you review the Audience Summary to make sure everything is structured the way you want. At any point of report creation, you can click back through to the previous steps.

8. Affinio will send you a confirmation email, as well as an in-app notification, letting you know your report is available for viewing. You can check the status of your report at any time by looking at it in your Master List of reports. In the first screenshot below, you’ll notice “The Biebs” report is muted gray with a yellow “pending” status; the report is still processing and not available for viewing. There will be an in-app notification (red circle) in the top-right User Menu once the report is ready to be viewed. Simply click on the report to open it. You will also have the option to open the report directly from the confirmation email.
