Cluster members are unique to a cluster, meaning there is no overlap between the members of different clusters; they can only belong to one.
All members from the full audience are initially considered for segmentation, but there are some reasons why this may not happen.
The reasons for accounts not being included in clusters are as follows:
- The account is protected
- The account has no followings
Both types of Audiense segmentation, Affinities and Interconnections, use following patterns to break users into clusters. Accounts with zero followings and protected accounts cannot be added to a cluster since we do not have their following data, or we don’t know who they are. This means they won't be part of the segmentation process due to the lack of following data to identify their connections or affinities.
Protected accounts and accounts with no followings can still be part of the full audience, as there are certain insights we can gather for them.
Please note that accounts can switch between protected and public status at any time. Whether an account is included in the segmentation depends on its status (zero followings or protected) at the time the report is generated.
- The algorithm’s nature excludes an account from the clusters shown
In the case of Interconnections segmentation, we retrieve up to 20 clusters, initially displaying a smaller number with the option to add more. However, the audience could be segmented into even more than 20 clusters, therefore some users may be dispersed across very small clusters that are never shown.
